Divine Love always has met, and always will meet, every human need.
Songs & Instrumentals
Music written by Walter Ian Kaye.
Spiritual Songs:
Lord You're With Us
My first song, written in 1977: "Lord You're with us, keeping
us strong; and right beside you where we belong all the time"
Children of Light
This one has a driving beat. In fact, I wrote the lyrics a full year
after writing the music -- the music was so powerful I didn't think
I had it in me to write lyrics to match! Music in 1978, lyrics in
1979: "His words bring us to light, illuminating our sight
like candles in the night"
Your Spirit and Your Truth
My first chant, written in February 1978: "Your Spirit and
Your Truth guide us every day"
Near Me Now / Cerca de Mí Ahora
Another chant -- has a "Christmas-y" feel. Spanish translation by
Miguel Corrales. "Near me now is my God standing by, loving
me"
Romantic (mushy?) Songs:
Together
Originally written about Eileen Lopatin in 1979 (and then titled
"Eileen's Song"), I rewrote the last verse on the request
of more than one person and retitled the song to match. "When
I'm with you I feel a peaceful flow; and together we will make the
feeling grow"
Don't Pass Me By
Written about Migdalia Ortiz in 1980: "My darling, oh you are
so rare; I'll love you till the end of time, if you will let me be
there"
A Time Before
Written about Sandy Cann, whom I seem to have remembered from a
past lifetime: "It was such a long, long time ago, I almost
couldn't see; then suddenly before my eyes was the nineteenth
century"
Other Songs:
True
Written July 1997, after meeting
Deborah Gibson.
This is about realizing that who I am is music, not computers:
"You have opened up the wall that kept me from my soul"
On The Edge
One of my few really upbeat songs! "I'm on the edge of
something good, exciting as can be; if only I had understood how
simple it could be -- on the edge"
Time To Be
Written as something good to play when sitting around a campfire.
"Nights are peaceful nights beneath the stars; nothing like
this would come out of jars"
Linda's Song
Not mushy, just very corny! Written about Linda Webb, a former
singer/songwriter/guitarist (gave it up for the corporate world?!?).
"You have a way of singing bright and true; it comes across
like mornin' sun and dew"
Indian Song
A special ode to Native Americans. "This is our home, the
Mother Earth; we will share it with your brothers if you'll honor
her sacred worth"
Poems I put to music:
Ode to Florence Cooper Original poem by Susan Strum [Dubitsky].
Nature Soul Original poem by Suzanne Spence Rabiner [Kassabi].
Instrumentals:
Sahár Written as a meditation accompaniment, at a picnic on the grass behind the lake at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park (NYC). The person meditating was Susan Broe, and the person who later named the piece was Sharareh Esmailian. (It's Farsi for... uh... oh dear, I've forgotten! Gotta ask her again...).
D2 Named after the main chord formation (a 7th-fret Dsus2)
M.B.Ditty Very silly attempt at classical/baroque!
All my music is dedicated to Sally Kennedy, who died in the early 1970s.
She sang with "Up With People" and was a Dylan fan. One of the nicest people I've ever known... I guess God needed her elsewhere in the universe...
