Stephen Kaplan, Ph.D. was an author and a vampirologist. Dr. Kaplan founded the Vampire Research Center in Elmhurst, NY, and has written books about present-day vampires and a book debunking the Amityville Horror story.

I met him and his wife in 1982 outside the Magique disco in Manhattan, where a Dark Shadows blood drive benefit was being held (this was back when NBC was airing the original episodes). Met one of his wife's brothers, too.

Most recent mention of the Vampire Research Center: 10/9/95 on "Entertainment Tonight" -- they quoted info that there are 36 vampires in Los Angeles...
