QuickMail Shutdown Information

Last Update:August 10, 1998

QuickMail Shutdown - Target Date 09/18/98 :

The QuickMail service is scheduled to be shutdown on Friday, September 18, 1998.

The reasons for discontinuing the QuickMail service are due to the high cost of support for QuickMail in the SLAC environment and the availability of Eudora as an alternative supported service. And now that the PEP-II construction is complete and the need for QuickMail for the PEP-II collaborators has ended it's time to shutdown QuickMail.

All QuickMail users need to move off QuickMail and onto another mail system by that date. This includes PEP-II division QuickMail users and others doing PEP-II related work.

It's highly suggested that you begin moving off QuickMail now and not wait until the shutdown date nears.

Eudora is the supported mail system for Macs. For more information on Eudora and how to obtain the Eudora application for your workstation see Getting Started With Eudora

Informing Others To Stop Sending Mail To Your QuickMail Account :

One way to inform people to stop sending mail to your QuickMail account is by using the MailManager function that comes with QuickMail version 3.0.

It can easily be set up to automatically reply to any QuickMail sent you with a preset message that you've created. For example:

"Please stop sending me email at this address. My correct email address is 'userid@slac.stanford.edu'."
